I suffered with depression and anxiety and associated IBS since 1994. At some points I was so low that just getting out of bed was an enormous struggle. This is what I’ve gained and wish to share with you:
  • I feel healthier and stronger than I did at 20.
  • Because of the sedentary nature of my job before doing this yoga, when I stood up for any length of time I would experience lower back pain. Core strength is of primary concern in Dru Yoga. Now when I stand for any length of time my core supports my whole structure and I have no discomfort.
  • I suffered from asthma but no longer take any medication for this condition.
  • I fill in a daily diary to chart my progress with the postures and sequences and the three gauges are Active, Proactive and Reactive. For the last two years, except for a few days, I’ve charted Proactive (you need a bad day to make the good ones even better!).
  • I’ve always viewed myself as chunky, but when I do Dru Yoga I feel graceful and calm.
  • My daily practice allows my mind to be still yet active and focused.

Dru Yoga has made a profound difference to the quality of my life. I work as a Psychologist in a school setting and what caught my attention was that wonderful book: "The Dance between Joy and Pain" by Mansukh Patel. It gave practical ideas of what to do for each emotion, and I immediately began to apply the techniques to clients and myself, of course.
Learning the Energy Block Releases was a pure joy - a practice that I really wanted to do as I saw the benefits in my inner energy - the difference I felt after I had done them compared to the feelings of being over stressed and lacking in energy that I had felt previously.

I started the Dru Teacher Training Modules in 1999. At that time it was a three year course, attending a 5 day training course twice a year. I can say without hesitation it has been the most profound life changing experience I have had in my 49 years. The skills, tools and wisdom that you attain help you for the rest of your life. It is like stepping out of a world filled with ignorance, reacting to circumstances in your life, rather then being able to control your emotions and responding in a positive manner. Being able to step back and be an observer to life rather then be trapped in the emotional reactions.

I have become a much calmer and peaceful person within. Before doing the course I would let little things that annoyed me stew and gradually build up inside me and then one day something little would set me off and everything would explode like a huge volcano. Changes within happen gradually, the little things do not worry you anymore. If they do, your awareness is much more refined and you know immediately when you feel uncomfortable within yourself. This is the great key, with that inner awareness that you have developed, you know when you stray off the path and you can bring yourself back using the tools taught on the modules.

As I have changed and become a more peaceful person it has created a peaceful home. Years ago I would have to travel away at times for business meetings. On my return my wife would say. “It has been so peaceful while you were away”. This would upset me as I thought at that time that I was an easy going fellow. Around the home if I wanted the family to do a joint task, say in the garden, no-one wanted to work with me. In my eyes they could not do things right and they did not work hard enough so I was always pushing them and hurrying them along. Dru has taught me to sit back and not force issues, to go with the flow, to understand that everyone is different and make allowances for those differences. The result being my wife and I have not had an out and out argument for years now. We still have discussions and not always agree 100% on everything but come to a compromise and we work things out in a peaceful environment. I have become much closer to my children aged 24 and 22. I feel that being and example and them seeing the changes in me have helped them change as well. Both regularly read a book I gave them from Life Foundation and my daughter calls hers her bible. She has become a teacher so imagine what she will be able to pass onto her students.

When I was in years 10, (1972) I did not know what I wanted to do, my only thought was, I wanted to help people. Maybe become a psychologist, I was not in a position to go to Uni so for many years forgot about going in that direction. In Feb 2006 together with another Dru graduate, we will be starting a Life Coaching Program for students aged 16-22. We will be using many of the tools taught to us in the Dru modules. It is such a beautiful feeling to get to a point in your life where you know your heading in the right direction, and no matter what happens in your life you have the skills to stay calm within when chaos is all around you.

In summary, Dru has helped me in all fascists of my life, physically, mentally and emotionally. If you are at a point in your life where you are looking to make changes within, “GO DRU”.
